More than a year and a half has passed since the translation industry representatives from Ukraine, Russia and many other countries met at the UTIC Conference in Kiev. We really missed personal meetings with colleagues in spite of the numerous possibilities of virtual communication. That is why we were happy to accept the invitation from the organisers of the Moscow Translation Club New Year’s meeting addressed to all colleagues and partners in Ukraine.
The forum had an unusual format defined by the moderator of the meeting as foresight, or modelling of the future. Mixed participant teams designed and presented to each other the concepts of a translation company as it is expected to be in 2020. The teamwork was alternated with brief descriptions of the industry history from the meeting participants from various cities and countries. We can say that the organisers of the Moscow Translation Club’s fifth meeting were able to unite both a range of industry players from different companies, cities, and countries and to build a bridge between the past and future of the translation market. After all, translators’ stories, curiosities, and the team reports, on the one hand, made everyone smile and laugh sincerely, and, on the other hand, they are a valuable source of ideas and information about what to expect in the near future.
We had a wonderful time and are pleased to note that, despite the current political situation, the industry remains united because its goal is to bring people and countries together. Representatives of the translation industry from various countries who have different opinions on certain issues and events are aware of the complexity of the situation and separate themselves from it without losing the ability to engage constructively. We are happy to see such a friendly and open attitude towards colleagues and are now pleased to invite all our colleagues to the UTIC conference that will take place on 10–12 June 2016 in a new format — on the riverbanks in a pine forest!
